An ambitious typographic branding project made for one of the most iconic magazine headers of the world, it defines the Spanish edition’s personality through a blending of the functionality of XIX Century Modern Romans (also known as “Scotch" typefaces) and the gestural expressiveness of typographic Baroque. Chamberí is a peculiar combination of the rational and the delicate, the sturdy and the feminine. The family is organised in a broad spectrum of 56 variants in which the transition from the restrained text version to the flamboyant, elegant display is modulated by contrast. The family is organised in seven weights: from Extra Light to Black, plus four optical sizes
: Text, Headline, Display and Superdisplay. All this with its own Italics, Small Caps and Old Style Figures, besides the due refinement to resolve any editorial and communicative requirement.

New-Yorker-Type was one of the first typefaces I tried my hand at in 1985. I meant it as a revival of the typeface used by the New Yorker magazine. I did not scan it. I just looked at the type and redrew it completely by hand. Only much later did I come to know, that there is a bundle of similar typefaces of that period. Rea Irvin's design for New-Yorker magazine was just one of them, maybe the best.
In the next step I repaired some of the mistakes that I made more than thirty years ago.
Now on the eve of 2020 I gave the font a complete overhaul and added a set of Swash Initials, Cyrillic and Greek glyphs and many ligatures. The font now has 1075 glyphs and is all set for most latin writing systems. On top of that I made two versions, a Classic one with rounded corners and a pointed Pro version for a more up-to-date look. Take your pick.

Hedra is an experimental sans with monolinear strokes mixing two typographic strands. On the one hand, the letterforms are very geometric: ‘O’ and ‘o’ are nearly perfect circles with just a small bit of optical correction to make them more readable. Together with the common ‘diagonal nature’ applied to some letter parts, Hedra feels quite technical and text set in it even almost looks futuristic. On the other hand, the letterforms incorporate some art nouveau qualities: the diagonals inside the ‘A’, ’B’ and ‘E’ are more historic than technical, while the ‘K’, ‘V’, and ‘W’ all have some unconventional rounded elements that seem like call-backs to the beginning of the twentieth century. Via an OpenType feature, users can make text look more technical and less historical if desired: Stylistic Set 1 replaces the curved-diagonal ‘K’, ‘X’, ‘Y’, ‘k’, and ‘x’ with straight-diagonal alternates.
